Egendomen grundades 1978 av Steve Kistler och Mark Bixler (den senare gick tragiskt nog bort hösten 2017) och året därefter kom första årgången - blott 3,500 lådor vin.

The Kistler Vineyards 'Kistler Vineyard' Chardonnay has been produced every year since 1986. This is the second most highly rated Sonoma Valley wine (based on critic scores): the 2018 vintage was given a score of 98 by The Wine Advocate and the 2017 vintage was given a score of 93 by Wine Spectator.
